NAD+ IV therapy: evidence, regulation and where it is offered

A 2023 review of NAD+-boosting supplements found that they can raise NAD+ levels in the body and were generally well tolerated. But the trials were small and varied, and the authors found it unclear whether raising NAD+ improves how the body works.

Studies of NAD+ drips are fewer and smaller. A 2019 pilot study gave a six-hour NAD+ drip to eight healthy men, and salt water to three others. It looked at how the body handles NAD+, not at health benefits. A 2026 review of records at one US wellness clinic followed six people given NAD+ drips, with no comparison group. Neither study tested whether NAD+ drips help healthy ageing.

Regulators and prescription status

In the United States, pharmacies make up ("compound") NAD+ for drips. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says compounded drugs are not FDA-approved: it does not review their safety, effectiveness or quality before they are sold. NAD is on the FDA's list of substances it is still evaluating for compounding (updated 14 May 2026).

In October 2024 the FDA warned that some compounders had used food-grade NAD+, which is not suitable for sterile drips without proper processing. It had received reports of severe chills, shaking, vomiting and tiredness after NAD+ injections, and some people needed medical treatment.

Unproven means: No good evidence of benefit for healthy ageing; regulators have issued warnings or advise against routine use.
