How we check licences in Thailand

Private clinics and hospitals need a licence under the Medical Facility Act, so the facility must be found in the DHSS register.

How we check licences

Stem cell therapy: Thai Medical Council rules allow stem cell treatment only as Council-approved standard treatment or in approved research. Medical Council of Thailand regulation, B.E. 2552

Checking a licence in Thailand

Both registers are in Thai. Ask the clinic for its private medical facility licence number, and for the full name, in Thai script, of the doctor who will see you. The Medical Council of Thailand search needs the doctor's Thai first name and surname, spelled exactly, and shows only doctors licensed to practise.

If a hospital says it is accredited by an international body such as Joint Commission International, bear in mind that the CDC notes accreditation does not guarantee a good outcome.

Planning your stay

  • A short visit: for a check-up package, ask how long the visit takes and when each result will be ready, and book early in the trip so the follow-up consultation happens before you fly home.
  • A residential programme: check how many nights the price covers, whether it is per person, and whether it assumes two people sharing a room. Our clinic reports show these details where the clinic publishes them.
  • Before you fly: ask the clinic about flying after IV drips, injections or hyperbaric oxygen. The CDC advises not flying for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery (CDC Yellow Book 2026).
  • Records: take your results home in English, and send them to your own doctor (CDC).
  • Insurance: most travel insurance policies do not cover planned treatment abroad (NHS).
