How we check licences in Indonesia
Clinics need a facility licence (Klinik Pratama or Klinik Utama). Facility checks follow the Bali Clinic Guide method: registry entry or licence document matched to the registry code.
How we check licences| Register | Confirms |
|---|---|
| Kemenkes Registrasi Fasyankes (Ministry of Health facility registration) | A facility licence or registration |
| Konsil Kesehatan Indonesia STR check | A doctor's registration |
Stem cell therapy: Indonesian rules allow standardised stem cell therapy only at hospitals and main clinics (klinik utama) that meet set standards, and research use only at designated hospitals. Permenkes 32/2018
Checking a licence in Bali
Ask the clinic for its facility licence number and the STR (registration certificate) number of the doctor who will see you. The Konsil Kesehatan Indonesia (KKI) search finds a doctor by name or STR number.
For IV drips and other products, Indonesia's food and drug agency (BPOM) has a public product check, Cek Produk, for registered medicines, supplements and cosmetics.
Tax on the bill
Some clinics in Bali publish prices before tax. Indonesia charges value added tax (VAT) at an effective 11% on taxable services: 12% on a tax base of 11/12 of the price, since 1 January 2025 (checked 18 Oct 2026). Medical services by doctors and health clinics are exempt, but beauty clinic services are taxed. Ask whether the price you are quoted includes tax.
Planning your stay
- A short visit: for a one-off test or an IV drip, ask when the results will be ready and book early in the stay, so the follow-up consultation fits before you leave.
- A longer programme: some programmes run for months, so most of the follow-up happens after you go home. Ask how it is done from abroad, and whether the clinic will send reports to your own doctor.
- Sun and flights: if a treatment needs recovery time or limits time in the sun, book it early in the stay and plan the days after it away from the beach. The guide to tests and treatments on holiday sets out the waits that the CDC, the NHS and the Skin Cancer Foundation give.
